October 21 - 25, 2019, is National School Bus Safety Week. Hempfield Area School District, along with many districts across the Commonwealth, will be participating in the annual Operation Safe Stop event. On Wednesday, October 23, 2019, the PA State Police will join school bus drivers in documenting incidents of illegal passing by motorists as students are transported to and from school. First Student bus drivers report an average of seven violations daily, with most occurring at intersections, where all vehicles are required to stop. Higher incidents are reported for Routes 30, 66, and 119. Student safety is compromised when motorist fail to obey School Bus Stopping laws.
