Cedar Point Trip (Select Chorus)

On Friday, May 18, 2024, the WHMS Select Chorus is going on a field trip to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio to participate in a Choral Festival.  There will be other choruses and bands from around the tri-state area represented at this festival.  Each chorus will be judged by professional judges and given a rating of gold, silver, or bronze, along with written and recorded comments of their performance. I believe that this festival is important for the students in that it will foster a sense of teamwork, pride, and self-esteem.  It will also be a way for our chorus to obtain professional constructive criticism for improvement. Following the festival, the Honors Chorus will proceed to nearby Cedar Point Amusement Park for a day filled with fun!

At least 12 parent chaperones and 2 teachers will be on the trip. All 6th grade students will be in groups of four or more and will be with a parent chaperone at the park all day. All 7th and 8th graders must be in groups of four or more at all times, but they are free to go off on their own.

The cost of the trip this year to $160.00 per student. This will cover the cost of round-trip motor coach, adjudication/judges fees, award plaque, water and snacks on the bus, and a Cedar Point admission ticket. The price also includes a t-shirt that students will wear for the adjudication. I tried to keep the cost as low as possible, but motor coach prices have been increasing.

Fund-raising is an option for all students. We are using ABC Fundraising. They have a great variety of items, 100% satisfaction guarantee, and a 1-800 number for customers to call if they are unsatisfied in any way. The products are all consumables such as pizzas, cinnamon rolls, and pretzels.

Students can fund-raise for all or only part of the trip if they wish. ABC Fundraising will tally the individual profit earned from each student and you will receive an invoice showing how much has been raised and how much is still owed.

The fund-raising kickoff is Friday, Nov.17. It will continue until the Turn-in Day, which is Friday, Dec. 1. This includes two weekends and the Thanksgiving Break.  Students will need to collect the money when taking orders. The delivery date is 2 days before the Holiday break. It is on Tuesday, Dec. 19 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Many students will be able to check their orders and take them home on the bus, but some students with very large orders may require pickup from a parent.

Students also have the option of not fund-raising at all and simply paying the $160.00. If you choose this option, please pay on or before Dec. 19, 2023. Make checks payable to “West Hempfield Middle School.” Cash is also acceptable. Also, if the $160.00 will cause undue hardship for you at this time, please let me know and I will see what I can do.
